Excellence in Legal Education
The Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law established in 2013, has grown out of the Department of Law and Policy which has been functioning since 2004, offering a 5-year joint BA-LL.B undergraduate programme, accredited by the Pakistan Bar Council.
The School combines the richness of a liberal arts education with a solid professional programme in law. Its pedagogical approach to law and policy is analytical, critical, comparative and inter-disciplinary. A high premium is placed on faculty research and policy output.
The programme’s unique joint BA-LL.B degree exposes students to a liberal arts curriculum for the first two years, providing them with the essential academic prerequisites for a well-rounded and sound legal education.
Over the next three years, students undergo rigorous training in fundamental and specialised subjects in law, as well as exciting new inter-disciplinary areas such as law and economics, international trade laws, legal history, law and development and regulation and policy-making. Clinical courses are also offered to provide hands-on practical legal training while still at law school.
One of the hallmarks of the LUMS law programme is its commitment to research and teaching through a dedicated full-time core faculty that has developed quality teaching materials and who also engage in research projects that help informed policy making at different levels of government in Pakistan. The teaching is also supported by adjunct visiting faculty.
A beautiful new building for the school has been designed and is currently under construction. It is expected to be completed for classes commencing in the fall of 2015. Since LUMS relies on the generosity of individuals like you, we ask you to consider a donation to create your legacy with the Shaikh Ahmad Hassan School of Law, and to provide research and building-related resources for future generations of law students.
