Pro Chancellor's Message
Dear All,
Capable leadership in any walk of life can make a difference. We at LUMS are constantly endeavouring to produce talented leaders.
We also realise that brilliant minds are not limited to the economically empowered; they are found in all parts of the country, from the remotest villages of Balochistan to the desert dwellings of Sindh. In a bid to provide merit-based education while remaining need-blind, LUMS established a development initiative in 2001 called the National Outreach Programme (NOP). Under the ambit of this programme, talented students from humble backgrounds are admitted to LUMS and provided with a full scholarship that covers their tuition and living expenses. NOP has provided us with many proud moments. Several NOP scholars are on the Dean's Honour List, admitted to institutions such as Harvard, Cornell, Columbia, Georgia Tech and Ohio State University. They have received further scholarships such as the Fulbright Scholarship and overall, have proven to be exceptional members of the LUMS community during and after their tenure at the university.
It is also heartening to see that these scholars are keen to give back; not just to the University in particular, but to society in general. This, more than ever, reinforces my belief that we need to develop a culture of giving which will eventually result in an environment where excellence is encouraged despite challenging circumstances and the most talented minds are honed to become capable leaders of tomorrow.
I look forward to your support in the most worthy cause of all: quality education for all brilliant individuals.
