Impact of Giving
LUMS has been instrumental in creating a better future for the people of Pakistan. LUMS is advancing research and grooming managers and entrepreneurs who will improve the economy and create a brighter tomorrow for all of us.
There are around 2500 students at LUMS out of which 2050 are undergraduates and 450 are graduates/post graduates. Overall more than $ 15 Million has been disbursed as Financial Aid by LUMS since its inception in 1986. More than 40% of LUMS students receive some form of financial aid each year. Financial assistance includes work compensation, interest free loans and tuition waivers. The National Outreach Programme (NOP) is an initiative under which students are given full fee waiver along with some other benefits like free hostel stay, living allowance etc. At least 25% of the students at LUMS (undergraduates only) are from the NOP stream.
The NOP scholars come from extremely deserving backgrounds from the underprivileged areas of the country. Almost all of these families are sustaining themselves on an income of less than PKR 250,000 per year. An education at LUMS brightens up their career prospects and puts them on the track for securing a better future for themselves and their families.
NOP scholars have shown their mettle after joining LUMS. As students, they have achieved excellent results. Those who pursued higher studies received scholarships like the Full Bright to top universities of the world. Those who started their careers are high performers at well reputed organisations. It has also been noted that these students, after leaving LUMS give back to the society in one form or the other. In fact a lot of the alumni giving back to LUMS are those who as students benefitted from some form of financial aid during their academic careers. Thus the impact of giving is far reaching and long lasting.
